I came up with this design by picking up scrap paper from my kids and was inspired by one of the scraps that looked similar to this final shape. It is a kiridashi that has been modified to have a belly in the blade. A kiridashi is a traditional Japanese wood working knife that has a bevel on only one side of the knife, similar to a chisel. This makes it very good for carving, as a marking knife, for skiving and carving leather, and many other general use shop tasks. I have found that having the slight belly in the kiridashi has made it far more useful for every day shop use, it is probably the most used knife in my workshop. These ones are all for right handed use.
